Some biologically active thioimines, formed by the condensation of het
erocyclic aldehydes and ketones with phenylmethyl ester derivative of
hydrazine carbodithioic acid and their dioxomolybdenum (VI) complexes
have been described. The monomeric complexes are formed by the bimolar
reactions of dioxobis(2,4-pentanedionato-O,O')molybdenum (VI) with mo
nofunctional bidentate thioimines. The complexes have been characteris
ed on the basis of elemental analyses, molecular weight determinations
, X-ray powder diffraction, IR, H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR spectral studies
and an octahedral geometry has been proposed. The ligands and their me
tal complexes have been tested against a number of pathogenic fungi an
d bacteria at different concentrations and are found to possess suffic
ient fungicidal and bactericidal properties.
