In vitro nicotianamine synthase activity was measured in tobacco under
Fe-deficient or Fe-sufficient conditions. Its activity was not induce
d by Fe-deficiency, in contrast to barley roots, implying that the mol
ecular biological regulation of nicotianamine synthase in response to
Fe-deficiency may be different between tobacco and barley.
