Theoretically, current drive by ion Bernstein waves in a tokamak could
be expected when the launching antenna is placed above or below the m
iddle plane of the tokamak plasma. Experiments in the TO-2 tokamak sho
wed that the excitation of such waves in plasma caused changes in the
loop voltage and other discharge parameters. The occurrence of these c
hanges were found to depend on the vertical displacement of the plasma
column with respect to the antenna, which can be regarded as evidence
that the current is driven by ion Bernstein waves.
