Abstract
A modification of Smagorinsky's subgrid model is proposed to account f or the effects of anisotropic filtering. No new empirical parameters a re introduced by the modification. Numerical experiments for a low Rey nolds number turbulent channel flow have been carried out. The results are in good agreement with results from direct numerical simulations. The effects of spatial resolution on the results of large eddy simula tions are considered in some detail.
