Intestinal stomas are used in the surgical management of a number of c
ongenital and acquired gastrointestinal conditions, Minor stomal compl
ications are relatively common and are often well managed with nonoper
ative measures. Stomal prolapse may not represent a serious problem, b
ut occasionally it requires surgical correction because of severe skin
excoriation, bleeding, or incarceration of the bowel. The authors des
cribe the treatment of stomal prolapse with the technique of button-pe
xy fixation, as originally described by C,W, Mayo. Copyright (C) 1995
