M. Gerlinghoff et al., A MULTIDIMENSIONAL DAY HOSPITAL PROGRAM F OR EATING DISORDERS, PPmP. Psychotherapie, Psychosomatik, medizinische Psychologie, 47(1), 1997, pp. 12-20
A day hospital group treatment program is detailed which could offer e
ffective treatment to many patients with anorexia nervosa and bulimia
nervosa who would otherwise require inpatient treatment. Important cli
nical advantages over an inpatient prog ram are described. The psychot
herapy is cognitive-behavioral oriented and is done in groups. A multi
-disciplinary team approach is used. The day hospital treatment progra
m includes psychological, social and eating-related interventions. Mai
n characteristics are the motivation-phase, the contact between patien
ts of different therapy-phases, the involvement of families in therapy
and the support of self-help. First empirical outcome results are pre
sented.
