V. Grubisic et Cm. Sonsino, DESIGN AGAINST OPERATIONAL STRENGTH OF STEEL CONSTRUCTIONS FOR PLANTS, Materialwissenschaft und Werkstofftechnik, 26(8), 1995, pp. 416-424
The knowledge of operational loading, shape, material and manufacturin
g of components for plants is necessary for their design. While loads
and geometry determine the overall and local stresses, the stressabili
ty is given by the material selection and manufacture. Herefore, diffe
rent design concepts and evaluation criteria are used. The numerical s
trength proof-out is supported by particular quality requirements in t
he material provision, design, manufacture and control, and if possibl
e by load and strain measurements during service. Especially, for safe
ty components the predicted fatigue life must be assured by inspection
s during their maintenance.
