Abstract
The advent of digitization has profound implications for our informati on society a it rapidly changes our means of communicating. The broade r implications of this transformation are responsible for the dramatic reinvention of our business, organizations, governments, and entire c ultures. librarians and information professionals are grappling with t hese issues at a macro level, while current challenger posed by the is sue of copyright illustrate further change taking place in our own wor k. The way that knowledge is created is changing radically; as a resul t, a new role far the librarian is being forged (along with new opport unities)one that is more profound, requiring tin understanding of the context in which information exists.
