Abstract
A phenomenological theory about the correlation between additive noise s, in a two-mode laser arising from scattering of photons by the mediu m in the laser cavity is presented. It is applied to an inhomogeneousl y broadened two-mode ring laser. We have obtained an approximate expre ssion for the steady-state intensity distribution, in which a first-or der phase transition is found.
