Ehrlich's Die Rechtsfaigkeit (1909) is a classical study of rights. Th
e aim of this paper is to clarify the central proposition in Die Recht
sfaigkeit with Boolean algebra. After describing that Ehrlich mainly d
iscusses the capacity to hold property rights in living law, the autho
r discusses the causes of the distribution of the capacity to hold rig
hts, which are patriarchy, independence of household and economy, and
individualism. A Boolean analysis of these causes is made in order to
clarify the relation between them and the distribution of the capacity
to hold rights. After discussing the effectiveness of Boolean analysi
s, the author constructs a truth table. Some Boolean equations are the
n drawn up from the truth table with some basic rules of Boolean algeb
ra presented. Because of the incompleteness of the truth table, some h
ypotheses can be drawn from it;in particular, the author examines Hypo
thesis 1 which stresses the effect of individualism, and Hypothesis 2
which stresses the effect of independence of household and economy. Co
nsequently, Hypothesis 2 is supported by its simplicity and the interp
retation of the text The conclusion shows that rights don't rule the r
elations between individuals, but the relations between groups which a
re socio-economic units.
