Abstract
XPS, ESR and IR spectroscopy have been used to study changes on the su rface of a Rh/CeO2 catalyst induced by thermal treatments under vacuum and subsequent CO adsorption. IR spectra of adsorbed CO confirm the p resence of Rh+ and the formation of Rh-O indicated by XPS. ESR spectra show the reduction of some rhodium ions, particularly at the rhodium oxide-cerium oxide boundary, during CO adsorption, favoured by the rea ction of CO with the support to form carbonates.
