In this paper, the long-term response of the seminiferous parenchyma a
fter biopsy of the sexual organs in adult rams is examined. The time i
nterval after biopsy ranged from 2-3 weeks to 2,3,4,5,7,8,9, and 12 mo
nths. The findings were evaluated by means of histological and electro
n-microscopical methods. The results of the experiments confirmed seve
re injury of the organs, with persistent degenerative changes to the g
erminal cells. Biopsy results indicated serious injury to the germinal
epithelium of the testes, with a subsequent cessation or even destruc
tion of spermiogenesis in the attached organ. Unilateral biopsy also c
aused secondary disturbances to the contralateral testis since, at lat
er intervals, findings of diffuse calcification foci were also found i
n the contralateral testis. The irreversibility of the induced changes
resulted in permanent injury or loss of reproductive ability in the a
nimals.
