Mi. Gutierrez et al., MODELING THE PHOTOCHEMICAL FATE OF ORGANIC-COMPOUNDS IN SEAWATER - A STUDY ON SINGLET MOLECULAR OXYGEN-MEDIATED REACTIONS, Marine pollution bulletin, 30(8), 1995, pp. 555-557
A study on the salt effect of the singlet molecular oxygen-mediated ph
oto-oxidation of organic compounds was carried out. The photo-oxidatio
n rates under different solvent conditions (water plus NaCl 0.45 M; me
thanol and ethanol plus LiCl 0.45 M; seawater and distilled water) wer
e compared. As a general trend the presence of salt reduces the veloci
ty of photo-oxidation, Although solvent polarity certainly plays a com
mon role in the photo-oxidation process, particular kinetic behaviours
were obtained for the differing derivatives, The individual photo-oxi
dation mechanism for each family of compounds must be saved for a furt
her discussion.
