Ya. Lukin et al., HEMATOLOGICAL CHECKUP OF SUBJECTS WHO WOR KED IN RADIONUCLIDE-CONTAMINATED ZONE AFTER THE CHERNOBYL ACCIDENT, Terapevticeskij arhiv, 67(1), 1995, pp. 19-21
Standard (hemogram, routine biochemical indices) and non-standard hema
tological parameters reflecting monocytic-macrophagal system (MMS) fun
ction and antioxidant defense were investigated in 140 subjects who ha
d worked in radionuclide-contaminated zone after the Chernobyl acciden
t. As shown by measurements of iron serum metabolism, lysozyme, total
interferon, CIC, chemiluminescence of venous blood mononuclear leukocy
tes, MMS in 50% of them underwent negative changes in suppressed antio
xidant defense. Standard hematological findings registered abnormaliti
es only in 8-27% of the examinees.
