Mo. Tanrikulu, HOW SMALL CAN INTERMEDIATE-FREQUENCY BE IN COHERENT ASK LIGHTWAVE SYSTEMS, IEICE transactions on communications, E78B(8), 1995, pp. 1238-1244
The impact of finite intermediate frequency (IF) on the sensitivity of
heterodyne ASK lightwave receivers is examined and quantified. It is
shown that certain choices of IF (f(IF)T = alpha(opt), 3 alpha(opt)/2,
2 alpha(opt), etc.) yield the same performance as infinite f(IF) wher
e ce,pi is the optimum IF filter bandwidth when f(IF) = infinity. The
approximate results presented in this paper are within 0.4 dB of exact
results.
