A system of two Josephson junctions in a superconducting ring is studi
ed. The dynamics of the system can be described adequately by the regu
lar equations of quantum mechanics taking into account the change in t
he external magnetic flux and the coupling with the heat reservoir. It
is shown that a two-junction interferometer can be regarded as a devi
ce that performs a quantum-mechanical measurement of a coordinate. (C)
