T. Tomov et al., SEARCHING FOR RAPID SPECTRAL CHANGES RELATED TO THE FLICKERING ACTIVITY IN MWC-560, Astronomy and astrophysics, 300(3), 1995, pp. 769-774
We present the results of coordinated photometric/spectroscopic observ
ations on MWC 560 in search for time resolved spectral changes correla
ted with the large amplitude photometric flickering. The magnetic bina
ry was observed in 1993 and 1994, during the quasi-stationary regime o
f its mass-ejection activity (ejection velocity similar to 1300 km sec
(-1)). In spite of observed flickering amplitudes of similar to 0.m35
in B and similar to 0.m2 in V, no significant change (at a few % level
) in intensity and profile was observed both for the narrow emission l
ines and their deep, wide and strongly blue-shifted absorption compone
nts. The lack of correlation between the mass-ejection process and the
flickering activity suggests that the two phenomena have different ph
ysical origins. It will be worth repeating the search for such a corre
lation once MWC 560 will be again in a state of higher speed, discrete
mass-ejection as it was in early 1990 (when ejection velocity approac
hed similar to 6000 km sec(-1)).
