Abstract
Titanium carbide ferrous matrix composites were produced by means of t he thermal explosion mode of combustion synthesis. The combusting beha viour of the powder mixtures was investigated. The effect of the proce ssing variables on the lattice parameter and the composition of TiC wa s examined. The influence of the carbide composition on the wetting of TIC by the matrix and the subsequent microstructure are discussed. (C ) 1997 Elsevier Science Limited and Techna S.r.l.
