Abstract
Improvement of mechanical properties of polypropylene(PP)/inorganic fi
ller composite has been investigated. Ion bond type inorganic fillers
such as calcium carbonate and potassium titanate showed highly improve
d flexural modulus and moderate impact strength with specific acids tr
eatment. DSC measurement and TEM observation proved that this phenomen
a could be explained in terms of nucleation effect of the inorganic fi
ller surface. Model experiments indicated that the nucleation occurred
at the metal salt derived from an inorganic filler and an acid.
