Abstract
Client-server architectures will, acording to most experts, dominate m ost EDP-szenarios of the 90s. Though there is rarely an enterprise whe re there are not various large EDP-systems in use. Mostly those are ce ntralized mainframe systems, which work the strategical business proce sses. The migration of these applications into a client-server archite cture is a long term and crucial attempt. The proper migration strateg y is one of the critical success factors. Understanding the existing s ystem is essential. Therefore restructuring und redocumentation often is a necessary preparation that requires re- and reverse-engineering e fforts before migration should be started.
