In a rapidly evolving field such as Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapy (
CRT), it is important for practitioners to be fully acquainted with th
e history and efficacy of their discipline. This review traces the dev
elopment of Cognitive Rehabilitation over the past century and describ
es the status of CRT today. The authors describe various methods of Co
gnitive Remediation that are in current use along with several develop
mental issues that have influenced the field over the years. Other iss
ues such as the efficacy of CRT and who these techniques are designed
to help are also addressed. The conclusion is that Cognitive Remediati
on has developed to the point where it can now provide efficacious tre
atment for a variety of different cognitive disorders. Copyright (C) 1
