Abstract
Hydrolysis of trimethylgermylium and triethylstannylium tetrakis(penta fluorophenyl)borate produced respectively bis(trimethylgermyl)oxonium and bis(triethylstannyl)oxonium tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)borate, tha t is, the protonated forms of bis(trimethylgermyl) ether and bis(triet hylstannyl) ether. The crystal structures of both molecules respective ly show increased Ge-O and Sn-O bond lengths and flattened tetrahedra about germanium and tin. These structural features indicate pronounced germylium and stannylium ion character.
