Reduction of 1,2,4,5-tetrakis(trimethylsilyl)benzene at a sodium-metal
mirror under aprotic conditions and an argon atmosphere yields red ne
edles of its solvent-separated radical anion salt. The structure, dete
rmined in a 150 K cold N-2 flow, is discussed in comparison with that
of the neutral starting molecule, literature examples and results of M
NDO calculations.
