D. Malhotra et al., TUBERCULOUS UTEROENTEROCUTANEOUS FISTULA - A RARE POSTCESAREAN COMPLICATION, Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 35(3), 1995, pp. 342-344
A case of uteroenterocutaneous fistula which developed after lower seg
ment Caesarean section is described. A total abdominal hysterectomy wi
th removal of a tuboovarian mass with excision of the fistulous tract
and repair of a small gut fistula were performed. The tuberculous aeti
ology of this fistula was established after surgery by a positive endo
metrial culture of acid fast bacilli and the demonstration of epitheli
oid granulomas in the surgical specimen. Antituberculosis therapy was
started and the postoperative recovery was uneventful. The description
of the nature of the fistula, its rarity and its presence in a woman
with unimpaired fertility are discussed.
