Abstract
A series of luminescent 2,2':6',2 ''-terpyridine lanthanide chelates, in which the group needed for coupling to bioactive molecules is situa ted in the chelating part of the molecule, was synthesized. The lumine scence properties of the labels both as free activated chelates and af ter coupling to proteins were also studied.
