Second Generation posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment progr
ams were recently proposed as one component of a model of treatment of
chronic PTSD. While First Generation PTSD programs emphasized trauma
work, Second Generation programs emphasize skills for the present/futu
re ability to adapt within society. The present paper describes a func
tioning Second Generation PTSD treatment program for Vietnam combat ve
terans. The guiding principles underlying this multimodal and vocation
al rehabilitation program are outlined.
