Examination of the aerial parts of Eriostemon cymbiformis led to the i
solation of two novel coumarin glycosides, isobaisseoside -7-(6-alpha-
rhamnopyranosyl)-beta-glucopyranoside] [1] and isobaisseoside-4'-p-cou
marate [2], along with the common flavonoid glycoside hesperidin from
the methanolic extract, and the dihydrocinnamic acid derivative eriost
emoic acid from the n-hexane extract. The methanolic extract of the ae
rial parts of Eriostemon wonganensis also produced 1, while the petrol
eum ether extract of the same yielded two other dihydrocinnamic acid d
erivatives, eriostoic acid and the novel methyl ester of eriostemoic a
cid [3]. The chemotaxonomic implications of these compound identificat
ions are discussed.
