Abstract
Direct condensation, in methanol, of primary amines on ethyl-alpha-(1- hydroxyalkyl)acrylates and 2-(1-carbethoxy-1-hydroxyethyl)acrylonitril e yielded respectively to alpha-(1-hydroxyalkyl)-beta-lactames and alp ha,beta-difunctionalized gamma-lactames in good to fair yields. In the latter case, reaction with N,N-dialkylated hydrazines gave perhydro-1 ,2-pyridazinones.
