Herpes tester is a viral disease characterized by skin rashes and pers
istent pain. Antiviral drugs, analgesics, and neural blockade have bee
n used as treatment. Epidural analgesia is very effective in the acute
stage of herpes tester (1). Herpes tester features various complicati
ons (2) including myelitis which is characterized by neurologic defici
ts such as motor neuropathy and sensory disorders (3,4). Since similar
neurologic deficits may he induced accidentally by epidural analgesia
, the differential diagnosis is very important when neurologic deficit
s develop after initiation of epidural analgesia in patients with herp
es tester. We report a case of herpes tester myelitis which manifested
after epidural analgesia.
