Abstract
The optical field of unidirectional photorefractive ring resonators is described by a complex Ginzburg-Landau equation and, when limited to variations in a single transverse dimension, is described by an extend ed Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation. Parameter dependences are examined a nd it is shown that complex time constants are necessary for spatiotem poral chaos.
