SATURATION OF THE FARLEY-BUNEMAN INSTABILITY DUE TO THE INTERACTION WITH ATMOSPHERIC-TURBULENCE

Atmospheric turbulence leads to the excitation of plasma waves in the lower ionosphere, inducing ionospheric plasma turbulence. The theory p resented shows that the induced turbulence affects essentially the con ditions of excitation of the Farley-Buneman instability. The establish ed frequency and wave vector spectrum of the Farley-Buneman instabilit y near the threshold is determined. The theory is shown to be in agree ment with the observations.
