M. Bohdanecky et M. Netopilik, THE MARK-HOUWINK-KUHN-SAKURADA EXPONENT OF POLYMERS WITH LONG SIDE-GROUPS - IS A(0)=1 2 A RELIABLE CRITERION OF THE THETA-STATE/, Polymer, 36(17), 1995, pp. 3377-3384
The intrinsic viscosity data for poly(decyl acrylate), poly(cetyl acry
late), poly(vinyl laurate), poly(vinyl stearate) and two polymethacryl
ates with long mesogenic side groups are reviewed and analysed by mean
s of three sensitive plots. Unusual values of the Mark-Houwink-Kuhn-Sa
kurada exponent a(0) under theta conditions or in good solvents (A(2)
not equal 0 but a(0) = 1/2) are assigned to a combination of the effec
ts of long-chain branching, chain thickness and, in the last case, exc
luded volume.
