The incorporation of zeolites in PI (polyimide) is investigated, aimin
g at higher fluxes and selectivities in membrane applications. Remarka
ble differences are found in comparison with the earlier reported inco
rporation of zeolites in PDMS (poly(dimethylsiloxane)): the adhesion b
etween the PI and the zeolite is bad, resulting in weak membranes. The
sorption of xylenes in the membrane is used to study the impact of so
rption and diffusion in potential membrane applications. The preparati
on method used induces anisotropy in the membrane.
