Abstract
The effect of citrate ions on the growth of magnetite particles is inv estigated. 'Ultrafine' particles have been obtained (diameter of the o rder of 20 Angstrom) that were converted to maghemite. The characteris ation of the maghemite particles by various techniques (X-ray diffract ion, transmission electron microscopy, magnetic measurements) is descr ibed.
