The effect of a concentration gradient on double diffusive ferro-conve
ction saturating a porous medium heated from below and salted from abo
ve has been analysed for fixed particle suspensions causing various po
rosities. The salt is a ferromagnetic salt which modifies the magnetic
field established. The effect of salinity has been included in the ma
gnetisation and density of the ferrofluid. For a fluid layer contained
between two stress-free boundaries, the exact solution is obtained us
ing a linear stability analysis. The onset of ferro-convection is stud
ied by both stationary and oscillatory modes. It is found that the osc
illatory mode of instability is favoured for media of larger permeabil
ity and the stationary mode of instability is preferred for media of s
maller permeability. Numerical computations are made and are illustrat
ed graphically.
