A group of polyamides containing free hydroxyl groups has been prepare
d by polycondensations of diethyl-l-tartrate with various diamines und
er mild conditions of room temperature and without using a solvent and
a catalyst. Loading of polyamide derived from ethylene diamine and ta
rtrate with 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid has been carried out by che
mical modifications in the presence of dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC).
The effects of polymer backbone hydrophilicity, the medium pH and tem
perature on the hydrolysis rate of the polymers have also been investi
gated, although there is some uncertainty about the precise value of i
nitial molecular weights of the polymer.
