C. Pariot et al., IONIC MICROSCOPY (SECONDARY-ION MASS-SPECTROMETRY) - EXAMPLES OF ITS APPLICATION TO PLANT-SAMPLES, Journal of trace and microprobe techniques, 13(3), 1995, pp. 307-316
After a brief survey of the principles of SIMS microscopy, four exampl
es of its application to plant biology are given, i) labelling with st
able isotopes as applied to nitrogen metabolism studies, ii) the role
of the cell-wall calcium in plant growth, iii) the involvement of sodi
um in the differentiation of secondary cell-walls, and iv) ionic patte
rns in seeds. Prospects of further possible applications of SIMS micro
scopy to biology are discussed.
