J. Hoffer, PROBABILISTIC PRODUCTION COSTING SIMULATION OF A THERMAL SYSTEM WITH A PUMPED-STORAGE POWER-PLANT, INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ELECTRICAL POWER AND ENERGY SYSTEMS, 17(4), 1995, pp. 251-256
The paper presents a model and two algorithms for the calculation of t
he additional pumping generation of thermal power plants and the disch
arging energy of a pumped storage power plant in a thermal system. Bot
h algorithms lean to the solution of a univariate global optimization
problem. One of these problems provides an optimal result. The other i
s suboptimal, as it is based on a lower estimation for rite absolute v
alue of the derivative of the equivalent load duration curve. The prop
osed algorithms can be applied within any loan duration curves based p
robabilistic method, and the practical solution of any of these proble
ms depends on the type of convolution method used. The pitfalls of usi
ng load duration curves is well known from the literature, therefore t
he proposed methods can be used only for medium- and long-term plannin
g purposes, and rite results do not have operative meaning for the sub
periods of the planning horizon.
