Abstract
We give a brief overview of first results of the measurement campaign
SA'ARI-94, which took place in May 1994 in southern Africa. The intent
ion was to characterize chemically the tropospheric air mass over the
subcontinent. Measurement of ozone and particles indicated a persisten
t layer with an enhanced burden of trace components in the upper part
of the mixed layer The total burden of trace gases in the troposphere
was much higher than expected.
