L. Dascalescu et al., BEHAVIOR OF CONDUCTING PARTICLES IN CORONA-DOMINATED ELECTRIC-FIELDS, Journal of physics. D, Applied physics, 28(8), 1995, pp. 1611-1618
The motion of charged particles in electric fields can be harmful to g
as-insulated apparatus, or may be used beneficially in several electro
static technologies, such as printing, coating and separation of mixed
granular solids. The theoretical analysis and the experimental data d
emonstrate the existence of numerous factors which determine the behav
iour of a single conducting particle in corona-dominated electric fiel
ds. Various kinds of particles, spherical and cylindrical in shape, ar
e studied. Several high-voltage electrode arrangements (point-plate, c
o-axial wire-cylinder) are employed, in order to generate intense coro
na discharges. The results ('lift-off' field, amplitude of motion) are
compared to the previously studied cases of electric fields without s
pace charge.
