From the two wagging frequencies of p-amino group identified by infrar
ed and Laser-Raman spectroscopy in the local anesthetic benzocaine, th
e inversion barrier height and optimum inversion angle of this group w
ere calculated. The different energy levels of inversion and their ass
ociated frequencies were also determined. The calculations were carrie
d out following two procedures: resolving the torsional Schrodinger eq
uation and by Harmonic approximation of vibration.
