Two new chiral phosphines, methyl 3-deoxy-3-(diphenylphosphino) -4,6-O
-benzylidene-alpha-D-altropyranoside ((3) under bar) and methyl osphin
o)-4,6-O-benzylidene-alpha-D-altropyranoside ((4) under bar), have bee
n prepared in high yields from D-glucose via regioselective and stereo
specific ring-opening of epoxides. (3) under bar and (4) under bar hav
e been characterized by H-1, C-13, P-31 NMR and MS spectra. Crystal st
ructure of (3) under bar has been determined by the single-crystal X-r
ay diffraction analysis.
