Abstract
N-Methylation of y-1-(2'-phenylcyclopropyl)-3,4-dihydroisoquinoline (3 b) with iodomethane in refluxing acetone gave the modified Cloke rearr angement product, methoxy-4-methyl-3-phenyl-2,3,5,6-tetrahyropyrrolo [ 2,1-a]isoquinolinium iodide (5b), a new derivative of the pyrrolo[2,1- a]isoquinoline skeleton, together with the methiodide salt (4b) of (3b ). The structure of (5b) was confirmed by X-ray crystallographic analy sis.
