Abstract
Different concentrations of neem seed extract, containing azadirachtin , were found to significantly decrease the number of feeding sites by the green vegetable bug, Nezara viridula, on pecan nuts. Application o f this extract to nuts decreased the feeding scars on nuts from 6.6 pe r bug per 24 h to 1.9 per bug per 24 h. This decrease was independent of azadirachtin concentration suggesting that only low application rat es of this substance may be necessary to significantly reduce the dama ge done by this insect in pecan orchards.
