A comparative study of the flavonoid chromatographic profiles and of t
he fatty acid composition of the seed oil was carried out in four spec
ies belonging to three different groups in the genus Caesalpinia. Both
determinations (statiscally analyzed) gave concurrent results and the
dendrograms obtained showed a closer relationship between Caesalpinia
velutina Britton et Rose and C. platyloba S. Watson, from the Brasile
ttia group, than between these two species and C. cacalaco Humboldt et
Bonpland (Russellodendron group) and C. hintonii Sandwith (Poincianel
la group).
