Abstract
Inequities in social work salaries on the basis of gender are a stark reality An analysis of the demographics of the full membership of the National Association of Social Workers revealed that the salaries of w omen social workers lagged significantly behind those of men, even whe n age, experience, and function were controlled. The analysis found di stinct salary differences based on the three primary functions perform ed by practitioners with master of social work degrees: direct service , supervision, and management. This article documents the extent of th ese salary inequities within the context of the profession's long-stan ding commitment to achieving equity and equality for women. Suggestion s about how to address the problem of pay inequity are offered.
