Abstract
A two-step thermochemical cycle with the ternary metal oxide system (F e1-xMnx)(3)O-4/(Fe-1-x,Mn-x)(1-y)O is applied to convert solar energy to chemical energy. Experimental investigations on the water splitting reaction of (Fe1-xMnx)(1-y)O revealed temporary formation of a mangan ese rich rock salt phase and an iron rich spinel phase due to phase se gregation processes.
