Ms. Fayache et al., THE ISOVECTOR QUADRUPOLE-QUADRUPOLE INTERACTION USED IN SHELL-MODEL CALCULATIONS, Physics letters. Section B, 357(1-2), 1995, pp. 1-6
The interaction -(X)Q . Q(1 + B tau(1).tau(2)) is used in a shell mode
l calculation for Be-10. Whereas for B = 0 the 2(1)(+) state is two-fo
ld degenerate, introducing a negative B causes an 'isovector' 2(+) sta
te to come down to zero energy at B = -0.67 and an S = 1, L = 1 triple
t (J = 0(+), 1(+), 2(+)) to come down to zero energy at B = -0.73. The
se are undesirable properties, but a large negative B is apparently ne
eded to fit the energy of the isovector giant quadrupole resonance.
