Abstract
A femtosecond figure of eight fibre laser has been constructed incorpo rating a dispersion decreasing (tapered) fibre within the nonlinear lo op to give rise to intensity (phase) dependent switching and adiabatic compression. With system optimisation, it should be possible to achie ve femtosecond operation without spectral sideband generation.
