Rm. Freij et Sth. Mullett, INADVERTENT INTRACRANIAL INSERTION OF A NASOGASTRIC TUBE IN A NONTRAUMA PATIENT, Journal of accident & emergency medicine, 14(1), 1997, pp. 45-47
Complications following nasogastric intubation in patients with basal
skull fractures are well documented. This report is of a rare cause of
inadvertent intracranial placement of a nasogastric (NG) tube in a no
n-trauma patient. The patient subsequently died. The use of NG tubes,
their place in airway management, and lessons to be learned from this
case are discussed.
